True Worship

Still in Nehemiah, reading about the refugees reaction when they had finally finished rebuilding the wall around their old city, thus substantially increasing the chance that they might actually survive in enemy territory.  Once the wall was completed, they read from the laws of the God that had helped them complete this great work.  Then they realized how far from perfection they were.  So they confessed their wrongs to God, and the wrongs that their parents and grandparents had committed.  They made offerings and received forgiveness.  And then they worshipped.  Sang awesome songs about everything God had done for them.

This chapter really reminded me that I shouldn’t praise God because the song is pretty.  I praise God because of what He’s done for me, my family, my church, my country.  Worship, real worship anyway, is a response.  I’m trying to remember to spend some time before church thinking of things to be thankful for.  To worship in spirit and truth.  Out of my insane gratitude for the joy and peace in my heart.  For the fact that the creator of microbes and galaxies talks to me.
