A Glorious Easter

“So what’s the plan Mom, is Rosalee coming to my class or what?”  That’s the way the four-year old started our Easter 2013 morning.  Today was our first time at church as a family of five.  We were all excited.

Trey and Rosalee did great, they loved seeing all of our deaf friends and they didn’t destroy anything.  Well not anything expensive.  Apparently Rosalee took a tour through someone’s purse but I didn’t see it so it doesn’t count.  Just being together at church would have been enough for a glorious Easter but God had something else in mind.

Late last week Eli and I read about the Lord’s Supper in The Jesus Storybook Bible.  Great book!  Eli especially liked the part when Jesus said he was leaving this earth but someone else would come in his place.  I asked E who that was and he told me the Holy Spirit.  Since then he's been super excited about Easter and has spent the weekend telling Rosalee “Jesus cross” in sign language.

Tonight Trey had a diaper blowout and as usual his brother and sister wanted to help me change it (meaning they fight over who gets to hand me the wipey).  Me, being unaware of the blowout, let them help so of course we ended up getting poop everywhere.  Off to the bath we go, and just as I’m elbow deep in soap and shampoo Eli asked me if everyone had the Holy Spirit inside them.  I told him no and kept scrubbing.  What happeed next was unexpected.  Eli stopped me, prayed a holy prayer, and in God's grace became my brother.  On Easter Sunday.  What a glorious day!

After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb. Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God’s angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing.

He rolled back the stone and then sat on it. Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white. The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn’t move.

The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.

Luke

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation.
