So here’s our secret wish – that you read our blog and save a life. We know everyone is not called to adopt, but some of you are. In an effort to impart knowledge and decrease the fear of the unknown here are some answers to common questions we’ve been asked.
· Where are your adopted children from? China
· Are they both deaf? Yes
· How did you find your adopted kids? We found our son on www.rainbowkids.com. Another great resource is http://www.signsforhope.org/, a ministry that connects deaf children with adoptive parents. http://nohandscurrentinfo.blogspot.com.
· How long does it take? From China it now takes about 5 yrs to adopt a healthy infant. But if you're open to "special needs" which can be as minor as a cleft lift, it takes approximately 1 year.
· What will you do about their deafness? Love it. Can’t wait to get some flying hands up in here. Just hope I can keep up.
· How old are your children? Our oldest son is 3 ½, our daughter is 3 and our youngest son is 1. The youngest two are still in China.
· Is adoption expensive? Yes, but there are lots of grants you can apply for, and lots of creative fundraising ideas.
· Do you have any girl’s clothes? Ok, no one has really asked this but I thought it was a good place to plug hand me downs. Just to be clear, the Parkers love hand me downs! 95% of Eli’s coats came from his awesome cousin Aiken.
· When will you bring the youngest two home? Not sure, our homestudy is almost complete, so we’re hoping to bring them home in fall 2012.
· Will you have to go to China? Yes. We will probably stay around two weeks.
· (Regarding the adopted kiddos) Are they siblings? Not yet
· Why didn’t you adopt from the good ole United States? Well it’s complicated but the bottom line is that we feel in our hearts and souls that our children are in China and that we need to go get them.
· Which one is your “real” kid? None of them. All of our children are imaginary. In fact, this entire conversation is imaginary. You had way too much fun this weekend. Go home and sleep it off (and get out of my face).
