So our first day in Beijing was
awesome! Partly because of the things we
did and partly because the night before Chip and I got to do this strange thing
called SLEEP.
Due to our super busy schedule
the week before we left and our drive to Atlanta the day before we left and our
early flight out of Atlanta the morning we left – by Thursday night Chip
and I had gotten a total of 10 hours sleep in four days, part of that being
really bad plane sleep.
We landed in Beijing at 4:30 pm,
and when our guide told us it would be an hour’s drive to the hotel I nearly
cried (and I am not a crier). All I wanted to do was sleep but Chip wisely
suggested we eat first (the airplane sandwich had mayonnaise! so of course we
could not eat it). That was good advice
and when we finally crawled into bed at 8:00 pm we were OUT! I cannot explain how different we felt Friday
morning.
Our guide here in Beijing is
called George and he’s been great.
Here’s what we did the first day, part 1:
Our first meal at the Flying Duck.
Tiananmen Square
The Forbidden City - breathtaking!
The Emperor's Throne
In all an absolutely wonderful
introduction to Ch$na! Chip and I love being immersed in other cultures, even the touristy kind, and Beijing has not
disappointed. An added bonus is that the
area around our hotel is safe to walk around and explore, something we rarely
get to do in the places we go on mission trips.
Thanks to everyone who is praying
for us. So far, we are both feeling
healthy.
