His Words,
Training Up
There is so much craziness and chaos in the world that E is growing up in. When I think about it I become so anxious and frightened for him. My world is bad enough but his is off the charts. It almost makes me sick to my stomach to think about what this place will be like 20 years from now. God has given me these verses to help remind me of His stability:
· Proverbs 31:25 NKJV - “She laughs at the days ahead”.
She laughs because she has seen God’s provision, has been faithful to her portion, and continues to trust him.
· Isaiah 6:1-2 NKJV - “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.”
I love to see Chip preach this passage. It’s such an awesome visual, his painting the picture with his hands of God in Heaven in all His glory. God was on the throne then, and He’s still there now, and will be there 20 years from now. I’m reading in Kings right now and some of the things Israel’s kings did will turn your stomach. So Isaiah had a right to be scared of the future, of what the next king would be/would turn the people towards. But God wanted to give Isaiah, and all of us, me, assurance that He was still in control. And in a massive way:
“Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!" And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.”
· Romans 5:3-5 NKJV - “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Hope does not disappoint. Ever. If our situation is good, we thank God and enjoy it. If our situation brings us trouble, we know that He will use it to turn us into an even stronger believer, more in love and aware of Him. It’s so easy to say but so hard to actually believe that my peace and happiness does not depend on my situation.
· 1 Timothy 6:15 The Message - “ He'll show up right on time, his arrival guaranteed by the Blessed and Undisputed Ruler, High King, High God”.
God is the controller of all things. To take my eyes off Him is to, like Peter, immediately become unbalanced and unstable, arms flailing just to stay afloat.
· Matt 6:34 NJKV - “Tomorrow will worry about itself.”
To be anxious is to sin. And to show God we really don’t think He can handle it.
